Lake Khanka is the largest freshwater lake in the Far East, boasting a record-breaking biodiversity—74 fish species (including the air-breathing climbing fish) and 336 bird species. The lake is also famous for the world’s northernmost lotus, the Komarov’s lotus, whose pink flowers cover the surface of the water in July. Due to its ecological value, Lake Khanka and its surrounding areas are protected as a UNESCO biosphere reserve.
Sikachi-Alyan stones 100 x 100
The Sikachi-Alyan petroglyphs are ancient rock carvings on basalt boulders along the Amur River in Russia's Khabarovsk Krai. Dating from the 10th millennium BC to the first century AD, these images depict scenes of animals, hunting, human figures, boats, and shamanic masks. This sacred site in Nanai contains approximately 300 carvings, although many have been lost to floods and glaciation. They are preserved in an open-air museum.
